EXPO CHICAGO is proud to announce that the world-renowned Studio Gang Architects, led by MacArthur Fellow Jeanne Gang, will join the Expo's creative team in a collaborative initiative to devise the design-forward interior environment at Navy Pier. Gang will take full advantage of Festival Hall's expansive space and ceiling height, creating a show floor that offers generous-sized exhibitor booths and spaces for special exhibitions, as well as ample room for large-scale installations and patron amenities. Navy Pier's unparalleled views of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago will provide the perfect backdrop for her design.
Founded by Jeanne Gang, FAIA, in 1997, Studio Gang is a rising international practice whose work confronts pressing contemporary issues. Conceived as a collective of architects, designers, and thinkers, the studio acts as a lab for testing ideas on varying scales: from cities to environments to individual buildings' unique material properties. The firm's provocative and alluring architecture is exemplified by such recent projects as the Aqua Tower (named the 2009 Emporis Skyscraper of the Year), the Bengt Sjostrom Starlight Theatre (an open-air theatre that sets performance in motion), and the Marble Curtain (a material exploration for the Smithsonian Institution's National Building Museum).
Since founding Studio Gang, Jeanne has gone on to win numerous honors, among them a 2011 MacArthur Fellowship ("Genius" Grant), an Academy Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and an Emerging Voices Award from the Architectural League of New York. In 2009 she was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
